At the same time, the authors of the publication note that these allegations contradict the analysis of Western intelligence agencies that Russia does not have sufficient capabilities to fly safely over Ukrainian air defenses in the Odessa region. In addition, in order to supply ammunition and strengthen units to Russia, it was necessary to create a land “corridor” from captured Kherson through the Mykolayiv and Odesa regions, facing resistance from Ukrainian troops.

They may be trying to carry out a military operation closer to Victory Day on May 9. On this day, Russian President Vladimir Putin allegedly declared Russia's recognition of Transnistria's independence. In addition, Russian special services may be planning to land in Tiraspol at the same time as organizing riots and protests in Chisinau.

Military analysts Jack Watling and Nick Reynolds of the Royal Joint Institute for Defense Research believe that such an operation by Russia would serve three purposes:

to withdraw part of the Ukrainian troops to the southwestern front;
to stop the current government's pro-European direction in Moldova;
to scare the West that backing Ukraine with arms and finances could lead to further destabilization in the region, particularly in the Balkans.

Analysts noted in the report that Ukrainian intelligence was aware of FSB Major General Dmitry Milutin's plans to try to use the symbols of Russia's prohibition on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, including the St. George, during the protests.
