Recently, about 50 ministers of his cabinet have resigned. Johnson appointed new ones who will perform their duties until the formation of a new cabinet, The Guardian writes . He himself will remain the head of the party and the government until new ones are elected.

Johnson also assured of continued support for Ukraine. 

During the speech, he added that he tried to convince his colleagues that the change of leader would be eccentric. However, it was not possible to convince them. 

"It's sad to give up the best job in the world," he said.

Johnson received a vote of confidence from his party last month and was immune for a year from another vote on his resignation. However, after members of the government who disagreed with his policy began to write applications for dismissal , the issue of his resignation became more acute.

Johnson headed the British government for the first time in 2019. He was one of the leaders of the campaign for the exit of Great Britain from the European Union - Brexit . 

Before heading the government, he was the mayor of London and a member of parliament. During his tenure as head of the government, he faced several scandals, in particular due to the coronavirus restrictions at the beginning of the pandemic . He was also criticized for the parties on Downing Street, which the Cabinet employees held during the quarantine. It was because of this that the vote of confidence was initiated. 

Johnson has already visited Ukraine twice during the full-scale invasion of Russia and is one of the leaders of helping Ukrainians in the fight against the aggressor.
